KitSound x Moreone
Our latest #MusicBringsUsTogether artist is London born and based MC, Moreone. We took 5 and sat down with Moreone to discover where his musical influences stems from, and find out where he goes when he’s wanting some inspiration.
Were your musical tastes influenced by anyone?
Of course, I was lucky enough to have been brought up with two older brothers so their musical tastes definitely rubbed off on me but I’d say it was mainly my Mum’s musical taste that influenced ours. Saying that, my Aunty and Uncle influenced my musical taste massively too.
I got into UK Hip Hop because I was inspired by Task Force – they felt relatable and with them being brothers and me rapping with my brother, it resonated with me.
Do you play any instruments? If so, when and why did you start playing?
Sadly not, but I once learned how to play Lonely by Akon on a keyboard if that counts?
If you had to just one song for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Sam Cooke – A Change Is Gonna Come (I just realised the irony of this, that a change, in song, would not be coming.)
Who are your favourite musicians?
I would have to say: Bob Marley, Oasis, Lauryn Hill, Kate Bush and Slim Shady (not the one who did songs with Rihanna).
Do you have any superstitious rituals before you perform live?
I don’t have any superstitious rituals as such no, but a friend of mine tends to have a nap before he goes on stage and that works a treat for him, maybe I should follow suit?
What advice would you give to beginners in the industry?
Work hard but have fun and more importantly, try not to focus on one of those things more than the other.
What’s been your most embarrassing on stage mishap?
I’ve had my fair share. At the last show I did in London I jumped off stage then failed miserably to climb back on and needed a boost to get back up, which was quite awkward.
What songs do you listen to when you need motivation?
When do you know that you are 100% happy to stop working on a song and release it?
When I hear it back and say “that’s a good’un.”
What one song do you wish you wrote?
Which country would you love to tour in?
Obviously to tour America would be a dream but I’m going to say Austria. I’ve done a couple of shows there in the past but I’d love to go back and do a full tour of a few cities there. They are massive fans of hip-hop, particularly from the UK and from how I connected with the people in Innsbruck, I know a full tour there would be incredible.
If you could go back in time to meet anyone from the past, who would it be and why?
Amy Winehouse, for obvious reasons. Can you even begin to imagine that meeting?! I’m really gutted that I never got to see her perform before she passed away so I would love to be able to go back in time to watch a show and maybe blag myself a backstage pass to chill with her after.
Where do you go to find inspiration?
It’s a difficult one because for me, inspiration comes from all sorts of weird and wonderful places. I don’t think I necessarily go ‘somewhere’ for inspiration, I believe it comes to me. Sometimes when I’m ready with a pen in hand and some music playing, sometimes when it’s half past three in the morning and really should be sleeping but I will get an idea and have to work on it at that moment.
What is your song of shame?
I was having a conversation about this recently, in my opinion, there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure – music wise – if you like it then that’s cool so you shouldn’t be ashamed. For the sake of your question though, I don’t feel shame but maybe my friends would be ashamed to be in my presence when I am listening to the Spice Girls – Say You’ll Be There
